ALBERT LEA — A mother from Albert Lea woman credited her two children for saving the life of their father after an explosion which occurred in their home last Sunday.
Cathy Rofshus told the media that her 48-year-old husband, Ron Rofshus was just starting to work with chemicals in a workroom under the concrete driveway of their home. Then something must have gone wrong as the chemicals exploded. The explosion was a big one that severely injured her husband.
She immediately asked her children to call 911. They were able to contact the emergency team and was given instructions on the phone what to do while waiting for the team to arrive.
Cathy Rofshus said her 12-year-old daughter called 911, and when her daughter got the instructions, the two children followed the instructions given over the phone. They kept their father warm and applied towels and a blanket to their father’s wound.
When 911 arrived, they immediately delivered the victim to Hennepin County Medical Center.
They were glad to find out that the children followed well their instruction.
As of Wednesday, Rofshus was in serious condition at Hennepin County Medical Center. The explosion will be under investigation.
